https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/24a884_new_5426.pdf I think this was original about birthright citizenship, but this decision does not say anything about it - only that a federal court cannot form an injunction against the whole nation Because universal injunctions likely exceed the equitable authority that Congress has granted to federal courts, the Court grants the Government’s applications for a partial stay of the injunctions entered below regarding the implementation and enforcement of President Trump’s Executive Order No. 14160, but only to the extent that the injunctions are broader than necessary to provide complete relief to each plaintiff with standing to sue.

The meme is the Mayor of Amityville, in the movie 'Jaws', telling the townspeople that the beach is safe, despite the huge predator shark. It's comparing that to Trump saying 'we obliterated their nuclear program' when there's some doubt that that actually happened.

Interesting. Following Brexit, we moved most of our European operations out of London and into Luxembourg. This was odd, because I was told that Brexit was going to make the UK more business friendly and competitive due to blahblahblahblahblah.

Moyers was ordained as a Baptist minister already by then. What an interesting life.

So there is such a thing as "city mouse" vs. "country mouse."

President Donald Trump's administration is planning to deport migrant Kilmar Abrego for a second time, but does not plan to send him back to El Salvador, where he was wrongly deported in March, a lawyer for the administration told a judge on Thursday. The deportation will not happen until after Abrego is tried in federal court on migrant smuggling charges, a White House spokesperson said. https://www.straitstimes.com/world/trump-administration-will-put-abrego-on-trial-before-deporting-him-again

@Doctor-Phibes said in BBC News now wants $8.99 a month for subscription.: I may end up paying, particularly if they start charging for BBC sounds, which makes my drive to work bearable. I am guessing that you are not talking about this website? 555 Many years ago, I came across this and bookmarked. Quite interesting with a lot of unusual and different sound effects. https://sound-effects.bbcrewind.co.uk for example Aircraft: Trident - Exterior. Taxi up & past. Bottles - Barman setting out bar, background traffic Birds: Pigeons - Pigeons: Flying, Chasing in coop. etc

The thing is, he still has a tremendous support with a large part of the voting population. It will be easy for them to make excuse as to justify what he said vs. what has actually happened.

@89th said in Megalodon Sharks Were Prehistoric Nightmares. Why Did They Go Extinct?: I'm surprised we haven't seen a trump-inspired MAGA LaDon. The article says it was slimmer than the great white rather than being built like a big fat torpedo.

@Mik said in The Oscars are on now: Yeah, Brody overstayed his welcome. I might not have minded if he had anything remotely interesting to say. I do want to see The Brutalist though. He was good in the Brutalist. I just watched it last nights, yes plural... it's like 3.5 hours long or something so it took me 3 nights. My thoughts, no plot spoilers though: click to show Guy Pierce is really great in it. Surprised to see him, and loved his performance as a rich tycoon. I thought the movie would be more about the brutalist architecture movement though, and not so much about one person. The movie starts out strong (and the cinematography holds strong the whole time) but the plot gets a little sloppy about half way through and (to me) lost the "this is a great picture" feeling by the end.

I bet he calls Pete that in private as a fun joke, and forgot he was speaking in public.
